Reparations in the News: November 2025

Dominica’s history has been central to The Repair Campaign’s November newsletter feature. Here is a brief roundup of a few such events during November 2025, in which reparatory justice took a central focus.

On Friday October 31st, Dominica celebrated Jounen Kweyol with traditional madras attire, music, dance and good food for a communal day of Creole heritage.

From October to November , Dominica bursts into vibrant celebrations, honouring its rich heritage and, the 3rd of November, 47 years of independence with music, food and unity.

Between 10 – 21 November, a global coalition of 140+ organisations and advocates urged COP30 to prioritise reparatory and climate justice, addressing colonial legacies and climate crises.

18 November marks Haiti’s victory over French in 1803, when Haitian freedom fighters in then-Saint Domingue secured a turning point in their war for independence from the French Empire, delivering a decisive blow to French domination and forcing a retreat that transformed the struggle for liberation across the entire region.

Suriname celebrated 50 years of independence from the Dutch on 25 November 2025, while Barbados celebrated 59 years of independence from the British on 30 November 2025.

On 2nd December, the UN International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, The Repair Campaign published our 2025 Impact Report, reflecting on the progress made across our programmes, partnerships and advocacy work to date.
