Join Us in the Call for Justice and Repair

We need your voice!

The Repair Campaign is uniting people across the Caribbean Diaspora to gather 100,000 signatures in solidarity with calls for reparations to support CARICOM leaders who will be engaging European countries in meaningful dialogue about repair this year.

We will be launching this initiative as we commemorate March 25th, 2025—the International Day for Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery.

We’re inviting you to record a 50-second video sharing why you stand with reparations and encouraging others to sign in solidarity

Your video will be shared collaboratively on social media with a link to the solidarity form, helping our Caribbean leaders present a powerful show of support to the UK and European governments.

Below are some factual talking points to help with your video. Thank you for joining this vital effort to create a future where everyone can thrive equally.

Scripted Talking Points

Here’s a guide for your video:

“I stand in solidarity with those calling for reparations for the Caribbean, and here’s why you should too:”

(You can choose one or more talking points below to highlight in your video):

  1. Our African and Caribbean ancestors who resisted the most brutal conditions under chattel slavery deserve to be honoured in our memory. That’s why I’ve signed in solidarity with reparations – because our ancestors deserve justice.
  2. Did you know, after emancipation, Britain compensated enslavers the equivalent of £2.1 billion (today’s value) for their “loss of property.” That was 40% of their annual budget. Descendants of enslaved people did not even receive an apology. That loan was only paid off, by British taxpayers, in 2015.
  3. Did you know, Haiti, once the wealthiest colony in the Americas, was forced to pay France the modern equivalent of $21 billion for its freedom. Today, Haiti is still in debt and the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere.
  4. Did you know, while European countries prospered from the wealth extracted from the brutal trafficking and enslavement of Africans, the Caribbean was left underdeveloped, with inadequate schools, healthcare, and economic resources.
  5. Did you know, it was cheaper to buy a new enslaved person rather than to provide any form of healthcare to keep the people alive. There was no wellness programmes back then. Today, Caribbean nations deserve stronger education systems, better healthcare, and opportunities for economic growth—basic rights denied to our ancestors and never repaired.
  6. Successive Governments refuse to formally apologies for the 300 years of genocidal enslavement of our ancestors or the exploitation of our resources for European profit. It’s time for Justice.
  7. The impact of Chattel slavery and colonization created deep-rooted inequalities, leaving the Caribbean under-resourced and unable to invest in education, health, infrastructure, and economic development. Reparations are about levelling the playing field so our youth can thrive and create sustainable economies.
  8. Did you know, as a result of the brutal treatment inflicted in the labour death camps – aka Plantations – the average life expectancy of the young, enslaved men, was about 25 years?  The trauma of slavery still echoes today. Jamaica had the world’s highest murder rate in 2022, disproportionately affecting youth under 25 years old. We need to repair the damage.
  9. Reparations are about repairing the legacies, so the next generation of young people have a chance to thrive.

End with the following:
